Moving on…

29Apr09

the dreaded paper-edit

I’d like to lay Omnicurious to rest – this is perhaps the third incarnation of the same poorly-executed idea, and I’m ready for a blog that is a bit more focused, a bit more “me”.

I’ve already been falling into the photoblog category, and considering that photography is my favorite and most prolific creative outlet, I will likely pursue that formatting angle.

But what to name it?

I may be based out of (and photographing a lot of) Monterey, but that is not my sole interest. I hang around with a bunch of vintage car guys, but that’s not really my thing either. I take LOTS of flower pics…but I hope not to have an all-flowers-all-the-time stream. Safe to say, the new blog posts will still encompass a wide range of subjects, but they will be anchored by images most often representative of how I see the world.

Phrases and concepts that fit my perspective (but don’t really fit into URL or blog title structures):

“…the journey is the destination…”

serpentine – the way rivers and other natural formations follow snaking, winding courses, and how time often appears to do the same – Andy Goldsworthy’s work seeks to describe this a lot, and while I am not actively pursuing this idea in my photography, it is working it’s way into my general worldview

quality of light – i am very sensitive to the quality, clarity and tone of light from day to day – i photograph with almost exclusively natural or existing light – alas, there is already a photoblog called “quality of light”…

photographs are moments preserved/captured/caught/frozen – always a wonderful, albeit cliche sentiment…

“box of light” is one of the best descriptions of a camera i’ve ever seen, but is already in use by an amazing photographer whom i respect too much to copycat

i am gradually pursuing the branding of “ApK Photography” – to be embodied in a different, non-blogging site – and my emerging Etsy identity (prints, anyone?) is lucky7seas, because so much of my life is centered around the ocean and coastal living…

I would love to hear any ideas – literary allusions, or snippets from great quotes are often good jumping-off points for these brainstorms – it probably won’t be a huge change, but i am in need of a shift in venue and format, and a renewed focus will hopefully bring fresh energy to my creative outlets!

I love “Serpentine”. I just love the way it sounds.

But why not have your blog share your Etsy name? Lucky7Seas is a great name.

I love your photographs. obviously I especially love the flowers and vegetable ones but I find so many of your pictures evocative.
